Steve Smith set for first County stint with Sussex ahead of The Ashes

Australian batter, Steve Smith is set for his first County stint ahead of the Ashes series against England, as per reports in Australia.

Smith, had a successful 2022 and will be playing for Sydney Sixers in the ongoing Big Bash League, and will be playing against India in a 4-match Test series before heading to England for a County stint.

As per a report in Sydney Morning Herald, Smith is in advanced negotiations with Sussex County Club and is likely to represent in the County Championship.

Smith's representatives have confirmed the development, stating that discussions were taking place with Sussex and other teams, but no contract has been signed as of yet.

The UK Telegraph had reported last month that several County teams have started to approach Smith for a short-term deal. The 33-year-old has previously played for Worcestershire in the 2010 T20 Blast, and has also featured for Surrey's second XI.
