In a significant development, Melbourne Stars have named Tom O'Donnell as the injury replacement for Marcus Stoinis.

Notably, Stoinis hasn't recovered from a hamstring strain, has been ruled out of the Stars' upcoming clash against Melbourne Renegades on Saturday.

Tom, son of former Australian all-rounder Simon O'Donnell, was previously contracted with the Renegades on a rookie deal. The left-arm seam bowling all-rounder has scored 38 runs and scalped nine wickets in seven List-A appearances.

Meanwhile, Stoinis' further participation in the BBL 12 is in jeopardy, as the swashbuckling all-rounder is yet to recover from the low-grade hamstring strain he sustained against the Sydney Sixers earlier this month.

The Stars have had a disastrous BBL campaign this season, placed seventh, winning only three of their ten encounters. They will face the fifth-placed Renegades in the Docklands stadium on Saturday.
