Australia's comeback man, Peter Handscomb will be racing against time to be fit for the India tour after suffering a hip injury.

The right-handed batter sustained the injury while attempted a pull shot in a club game for Victoria. Three balls later, he collapsed on the pitch in pain and was taken off the field as a precautionary measure.

"Scans have since confirmed soft-tissue damage in his right hip," a cricket.com.au report stated on Friday.

"Officials are confident Handscomb will be fit to leave with the Australian team later this month for the Qantas tour of India."

Australia will tour India for a 4-match Test series, starting from February 9 in Nagpur. The Aussies haven't won a series in India since the famous 2004 tour and will be looking to seal the series with a supremely confident squad this time.

The visitors have been battling with injuries, with the latest inductee being Handscomb. Apart from the 31-year-old, Mitchell Starc and Cameron Green have sustained finger injuries, and their participation in the first Test looks highly unlikely.
