Sri Lanka head coach Chris Silverwood said the lack of discipline from his bowlers in the first powerplay allowed India to get off to a brisk start. Silverwood's remarks came after his side's 67-run loss to India in the first ODI in Guwahati.

Reviewing his team's performance in the post-match presentation, head coach Silverwood highlighted the main reason behind his team's loss in the series opener.

He said the Lankan bowlers lacked discipline with the new ball and that allowed team India to get off to a flying start.

"Obviously, we didn't get off to the best start. If I have to be brutally honest, our discipline in the first ten overs was lacking at times, and we allowed India to get off to a good start. This is a high-scoring ground. India knew that they had to get off to a good start and we allowed them to do that," Chris Silverwood was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.

India outplayed Sri Lanka in the first ODI on Tuesday to take an early 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Late in the day, Dasun Shanaka fought till the late breathe with his fighting hundred. However, Sri Lanka failed to chase down a colossal 374-run target.

The caravan moves to Kolkata where the two teams will fight it out at the iconic Eden Gardens on January 12.
