The Phase 1 of the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League 2023 (BPL 2023) season came to a conclusion on January 10, with two games at Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla Stadium.

Here is a look at how the two matches panned out at the iconic venue.

Rangpur Riders vs Fortune Barishal

The Fortune Barishal consigned the Rangpur Riders to their first defeat of the season. Chasing a competitive total, the Barishal batters catered themselves to a win with four balls and six wickets in hand.

For the riders, T20 warhorse Shoaib Malik was the top-performer with the bat as he scored a fluent 54* in the middle. Their Zimbabwean import Sikander Raza also made much impact, albeit with the ball, as the ace spinner collected two wickets off his economical spell during the Barishal run-chase.

Meanwhile, Ibrahim Zadran compiled 52 and he alongside Mehidy Hasan Miraz were the architects of Barishal’s emphatic victory

Brief scores:

Rangpur Riders: 158-7 (20)

Shoaib Malik 54* (36), Rony Talukdar 40 (28)
Mehidy Hasan Miraz 2-21, Chaturanga de Silva 2-30

Fortune Barishal: 162-4 (19.2)

Ibrahim Zadran 52 (41), Mehidy Hasan Miraz 43 (29)
Sikandar Raza 2-14, Robiul Haque 1-25

Fortune Barishal won by six wickets.

Sylhet Strikers vs Dhaka Dominators

Sylhet Strikers continue to maintain their unbeaten run this season as they pounded the Dhaka Dominators by 62 runs.

Batting first, opener Najmul Hossain Shanto whacked a boundary-laden 57 and formed an 88-run stand with Towhid Hridoy. The latter himself compiled 84 runs from just 46 deliveries, thus marking his third successive fifty-plus score of the season. Their knocks turbo-charged the Strikers to mount a huge 201-run total.

Later, Nasir Hossain’s 44 and Mohammad Mithun’s 42 constituted the majority of Dominators’ meagre 139-run response in the run-chase. With 18 extras forming the third-best score for the side, the remaining eight of their batters combined to add just 35 runs between them.

Strikers’ pacers Mashrafe Mortaza and Mohammad Amir struck twice each in their spells, and were ably assisted by Imad Wasim and Thisara Perera.

Brief scores:

Sylhet Strikers: 201-8 (20)

Towhid Hridoy 84 (46), Najmul Hossain Shanto 57 (39)
Al-Amin Hossain 3-45, Taskin Ahmed 2-36

Dhaka Dominators: 139 (19.3)

Nasir Hossain 44 (35), Mohammad Mithun 42 (28)
Mashrafe Mortaza 2-14, Mohammad Amir 2-19

Sylhet Strikers won by 62 runs.
