As per the latest reports, Australia are set to include four front-line spinners for their tour of India next month.

Uncapped Victorian spinner, Tod Murphy is also in line to get a call-up in the Australian side for the Border-Gavaskar series.

However, former Australian fast bowler, Michael Kasprowicz reckons that Australia will be making a big mistake if they include four spinners in the lineup, and especially the inexperienced Murphy for this all-important series.

Australia will announce their 18-member squad for the India tour on Wednesday and sources close to THE Age and the Herald have stated Murphy will be given his senior call-up for the upcoming tour.

Apart from Murphy, and sure starter Nathan Lyon, it is widely expected that Mitchell Swepson and Ashton Agar will accompany the other spinners.

Kasprowicz has his take

“Don’t do it [debut Murphy] in India,” Kasprowicz said. “They are the best players of spin in the world. There’s a temptation when you turn up to a spinning wicket … you end up finding that bowlers try too hard for their wickets.

“This whole search for spin [in India] ... there’s a bit of a myth about that. The best spinner ever was Warnie. His record in India wasn’t fabulous. He’s bowling against the best players of spin in the world in their conditions. That was the other side of it. As far as spin bowlers, you don’t need to overthink it. You’ve got to almost simplify it."

Australia's tour of India commences from February 9, with the first Test taking place in Nagpur
