The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is preparing for the upcoming Women's Indian Premier League (WIPL), with media rights, franchise tenders, and auctions in-line. The WIPL is tentatively scheduled to be held from March 3.

India Women's dashing opener Smriti Mandhana hopes that the inaugural tournament will mimic the success that the WBBL and The Hundred Women's did for Australia and England cricket, respectively.

Mandhana, who has been named as India Women's vice-captain for the upcoming South Africa tour, according to ANI, sounded upbeat about the WIPL.

WIPL will be a five-team tournament on the lines of the IPL, where men's IPL franchise-owners like CSK, RR, and KKR have shown interest in acquiring teams.

Here's what Mandhana said

“Women’s IPL is going to be a great tournament in terms of bench strength. What happened to women’s cricket is that a bench strength was created in the same way.

Just like Women’s Big Bash and Women’s 100 did for Australia and England respectively in the same way Women’s IPL will help us see higher pressure situations. So, they will be ready when they will play international cricket,”

Meanwhile, Mandhana will be in action from January 19, when India meets South Africa in the opening match of the T20I Tri-Nation series, also involving West Indies.
