In the lead-up to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India, the Men in Blue are trying to settle their side by playing a fixed crop of players.

However, this means that many of the recent young stars will have to bear the brunt by missing out on many opportunities as this time the axe has been laid on the double-centurion Ishan Kishan who will be missing out on the first ODI against Sri Lanka.

The news was disclosed by skipper Rohit Sharma, who said that someone has to sit out in order to try and test the combinations. He mentioned that they want to make sure that Shubman Gill is given a consistent run in the international arena before coming to any judgement.

India as of now, can only accommodate any one of Kishan or Gill, as Rohit is set to open, with superstar Virat Kohli slotted in at three.

What Rohit said in the press conference

"Unfortunate that we won't be able to play Ishan Kishan. We have to give Gill a fair run."

India will be involved in a three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka beginning on the 10th of January in Guwahati.
