They will be back in the T20 team: Dilip Vengsarkar on Rohit Sharma-Virat Kohli

With the Indian T20I side undergoing transition, the future of veteran players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli is unsure. Both, however, remain India's mainstays in the One-Day International and Tests, but with the ever-changing landscape in the 20-overs format, they might not get another chance.

Former Indian player Dilip Vengsarkar, however, feels otherwise. Speaking at an event organised by the Mumbai Press Club, one of India's most successful chairman of selectors, stated that Sharma and Kohli will make a comeback into the 20-overs scheme and continue to put pressure on younger players for a place in the XI.

While Kohli enjoyed brilliant form last year in T20Is for India, Sharma had a dreadful season with the bat, in a year that included the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

Here's what Vengsarkar said

"They've done great service to Indian cricket, they are extremely fit and both have a lot of cricket left in them. I think when there's an important event, they will be back in the T20 team. They are an integral part of the Test team. I'm sure they'll continue. I'm a huge fan of both of them,"

Speaking about the much-awaited Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023, the former World Cup-winning player said that hosts India go-in as hot favourites.

"I'm sure India will do very well against Australia. Australia are a good side, there's no question about it. It'll be a good game of cricket,"

Both Sharma and Kohli will be seen in action in the first ODI against Sri Lanka tomorrow in Guwahati.
