You are born to ride a Ferrari, never switch to a Fiat - Dale Steyn on Umran Malik

New pace sensation Umran Malik rattled Sri Lankan batters in the first T20I in Mumbai, where his two wickets helped India clinch a close encounter by two runs.

Malik's delivery to get Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka's wicket clocked 155 kmph, making him the fastest Indian bowler ever.

Malik's Jammu and Kashmir teammate Raman Thaploo has revealed what former South African speedster Dale Steyn advised the 23-year-old during his stint in the Indian Premier League with Sunrisers Hyderabad last season.

Steyn has been an ardent supporter of Malik, and has egged the youngster to bowl as fast as possible.

Malik has so far played five One-Day Internationals and four T20Is since 2021. According to India Today, Steyn told Malik to focus on speed and not compromise for anything as told by Thaploo.

Here's what Thaploo revealed

"Dale Steyn told Umran, ‘You are born to ride a Ferrari, never switch to a Fiat,’. Tom Moody and Muttiah Muralitharan’s advice was to never compromise with his pace because it is his weapon by which he can terrorise batsmen.”

J&K coach Randhir Manhas believes that Malik could break the 160 kmph barrier as well going forward someday.

The SRH bowler himself in an interview stated that he would like to break Shoaib Akhtar's 161 kmph world record if possible.
