It was a dramatic Day 3 in Round-4 matches of Ranji Trophy. Many players got an opportunity to close out the match for their team and yet some played rescue roles under some tough conditions. Ahead of an exciting Day 4 coming up, let's take a quick review of some of the top performances from Day 3.

Kedar Jadhav - 283 (283) vs Assam

Kedar Jadhav made his return to first-class cricket after more than three years and scored a mammoth 283 against Assam on Day 3. The Maharashtra veteran completed his century in just 115 balls the day before and went on to score his third first-class double century today. However, he did feel some discomfort and had to leave the field when he was batting on 183. But he came back and scored 283 off 283 balls, including 21 fours and 12 sixes. This was Jadhav’s first double century since the 2013-14 season which helped Maharashtra to take a heavy 320 runs lead in the first innings.

Jalaj Saxena - 5 for 103 vs Goa

Jalaj Saxena continued his brilliant form against Goa as he took his third consecutive five-wicket haul and helped Kerala to restrict Goa for 311 on Day 3. He took his first wicket on Day 2 and went on to take four more on Day 3, including the wicket of Ishan Gadekar who scored a century on debut. The 36-year-old now has 31 wickets in four matches, including four five wicket hauls and sits at the top of the highest wicket-taker list of the season..

Baba Indrajith - 103 (159) vs Mumbai

Baba Indrajith led from the front with a century as Tamil Nadu fought back against Mumbai after the first innings conundrum. Resuming the day, trailing by 275 runs, Tamil Nadu needed to survive the whole Day 3 to have a chance in this match. Skipper Indrajith walked out to bat with still 237 runs behind and went on to score his 14th first-class century, fourth against Mumbai. Indrajith was hot and cold throughout the tournament but saved his best for Mumbai.

Ankit Kumar - 174 (286) vs Uttar Pradesh

Haryana lost Yuvraj Singh early on Day 2 and Ankit Kumar arrived and later found his team limited to 5 down with only 77 on the board. Ankit alongside Sumit Kumar managed to build a partnership and resumed on Day 3 with 140 on the board. The 25-year-old started the day on 80, faced some quality spell of bowling from the UP bowlers, scored his second first-class century and went on to make 174. It was his second consecutive century as he scored an unbeaten 172 in the last round match against Odisha in Cuttack.

Baltej Singh 4 for 38 vs Gujarat

After taking a 7-wicket haul in the first innings, Punjab’s Baltej Singh did further damage to Gujarat as he took another four wickets in the second innings on Day 3 and complete his career’s first 10-wicket haul in a match. Gujarat were chasing a massive 519-run target and Baltej did early damage by taking three wickets in his first two overs, leaving Gujarat 3 down for nothing on the board. Punjab went on to win the match by 380 runs and Baltej finished with 11 for 56 in the match.
