Experienced Indian batter Shreyas Iyer was excluded from the squad that took the field in the T20 World Cup in Australia last year.

Despite being consistent in the shortest format, Iyer couldn't make the cut, which raised a few eyebrows.

Meanwhile, the batter has revealed that he was disappointed after missing out on the World Cup berth.

However, he also explained how he overcame the situation and utilised the time to evolve as a batter.

Here's what Iyer stated

"It was disappointing. It is something that you dream as a kid, to represent your country at the biggest stage. Winning it for the team is also something which gives you the chills,

"But it was not that I was completely demotivated. I didn’t let that get into my mind. I was just doing my things right. I focused on myself. I took a break, went and played domestic cricket. It gave me more time to elevate my skills."

Iyer enjoyed stellar success in 2022, finishing the year as India's most successful batter across formats, amassing 1609 runs at an impressive average of 48.75. Currently, he is in the Indian squad for the ODI series against Sri Lanka.
