Australian opener Usman Khawaja continued his rich form from 2022, slamming the first century of 2023 in the ongoing third and final Test against South Africa at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Khawaja's 13th Test ton was his third consecutive hundred in Sydney, a feat that has been recorded by just three players before him — Australia's Wally Hammond and Doug Walters, and India’s VVS Laxman.

The left-handed opener achieved this landmark on Day 2 of the Sydney Test while taking a double off Kagiso Rabada. Khawaja's first two hundreds came during The Ashes 2021-22 against England.

After being out of the action for two and a half years, the 36-year-old amassed 1,080 runs at an average of 67.50 in 2022.

Overall, in 56 Tests, Khawaja has scored 4,139 runs, apart from playing in 40 ODIs and 9 T20Is along the way.

As of writing, Australia, who lead the series 2-0, are 394 for 3 during tea on Day 2, with Khawaja and Travis Head batting on 172* and 17*, respectively.
