In a significant development, experienced Sri Lankan all-rounder Chamika Karunaratne has joined Dubai Capitals for the inaugural International League T20. He replaces his teammate Dushmantha Chameera in the squad.

The club announced his signing via a tweet, that read,

"CapitalsFam, introducing the newest member to the CapitalsUniverse. He replaces Dushmantha Chameera, who unfortunately, pulls out due to an injury. We wish him a speedy recovery."

Regarded as an asset in T20 cricket, Karunaratne offers decent value with both bat and ball. The all-rounder has scalped 58 wickets, besides scoring 715 runs, in 90 T20 appearances. Furthermore, he has made his mark in T20Is, helping Sri Lanka win several encounters through his heroic performances.

However, the 26-year-old had a torrid time in 2022, managing 169 runs and 14 wickets in 24 T20I outings. At the same time, he flourished in ODIs, garnering 176 runs and claiming ten wickets in eight matches.

On Tuesday, Karunaratne played a magnificent 23-run cameo that helped Sri Lanka give India a run for their money in the first T20I in Mumbai. The two teams will clash in the second game of the series in Pune on Thursday.
