One of India's most promising batters, Sanju Samson, in his limited T20I chances, has managed to blow hot and cold.

In the first T20I against Sri Lanka in Mumbai, Samson, yet again, failed to do justice to his talent and managed just five runs. The legendary Sunil Gavaskar has lashed out at him.

It was a forgetful match for Samson, who after receiving a reprieve departed playing a rash shot on the very next delivery off Dhananjaya de Silva.

Renowned for his agile fielding, the Rajasthan Royals captain dropped a sitter in the first over off Hardik Pandya's bowling. But he did claim two catches later in the innings.

As per IndianExpress, Gavaskar noted that Samson is a fine player but needs to play shots accordingly.

“This time, it’s the leading edge going to short third man. He is such a fine player. Sanju Samson has so much of talent but his shot selection sometimes lets him down. And this is one more occasion where it has disappointed.”

Former India opener Aakash Chopra also questioned Samson's approach, highlighting his lack of match awareness, speaking on his YouTube channel.

"Sanju played a bad shot to get out and I don't know what Sanju's fans are thinking because it was a bad shot. The situation did not demand it at that time, there was no need."

Both teams will lock horns in the second T20I in Pune on Thursday, before travelling to Rajkot to sum up the series on Saturday.
