India's star leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal eyes yet another milestone in T20Is when India takes on Sri Lanka in a 3-match T20I series, starting Tuesday, January 3, in Mumbai.

Chahal is just five scalps away from becoming India's first bowler to reach 300 T20 wickets. Currently, he has 295 wickets to his name from 257 T20 innings. Ashwin stands second in this tally.

The 32-year-old also needs four more wickets to surpass Bhuvneshwar Kumar as India's leading wicket-taker in T20I cricket. Chahal currently has 87 wickets in 71 matches, three less than Bhuvneshwar's tally of 90 wickets.

The Haryana leg-spinner eyes another record as he is five wickets away from joining an elite list of bowlers who have picked up 50 or more wickets at home in T20 Internationals.

Chahal has picked up 45 wickets, including a 5-wicket haul and two four-wicket hauls, in 35 matches at home at an average of 22. Tim Southee, Ish Sodhi and Shakib Al Hasan are the only three bowlers with 50 or more wickets in T20Is at home.

Most wickets in T20Is at home

  • Tim Southee - 78 wickets in 59 matches
  • Ish Sodhi - 57 wickets in 46 matches
  • Shakib Al Hasan - 52 wickets in 42 matches
  • Mustafizur Rahman - 46 wickets in 34 matches
  • Yuzvendra Chahal - 45 wickets in 45 matches

Chahal is expected to be India's front-line spinner for the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. It will be a crucial series for him, given he has failed to make an impact with the ball in India's tour of New Zealand.
