Former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly after tough few months has rejoined the Capitals franchise as the director of cricket, informed PTI. He will be tasked to oversee all three teams owned by the group in the IPL, SA20 and ILT20 namely Delhi Capitals, Pretoria Capitals and Dubai Capitals, respectively.

Ganguly, who was previously associated with the JSW-GMR owned side in the capacity of mentor during the IPL 2019. The left-hander's tenure came to an end after he was appointed as the BCCI President.

In October last year, Roger Binny succeeded him as the President of the apex body.

A source related to the franchise confirmed the development speaking,

"Yes, Sourav will be back with Delhi Capitals from this year. The discussions and modalities are over.

"He has worked with the franchise, shares a good comfort level with owners and if he would have worked in IPL, it would have always been with DC."

His stint with Capitals was on the cards, after he backed out of CAB election giving his brother Snehasish Ganguly the opportunity to contest for the post.

Head coached by Ricky Ponting, the Delhi-based team was set to be led by Rishabh Pant who now stands injured and faces a risk of missing out on the entire season. This will tempt the management to search for new potential captaincy candidate before the next edition.
