Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra has suggested Team India to not take Sri Lanka lightly ahead of the three match T20I between India and Sri Lanka.

Hardik Pandya is the new captain of the newly look team India in T20Is. The Men in Blue will start their home season in the series against Sri Lanka, starting at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, on Tuesday.

India have a dominating record over Sri Lanka in T20Is over the years. India defeated the Lankans by 3-0 in their last visit for a T20I series last year. However, Dasun Shanaka and co. got the better of India at the Asia Cup 2022 which took the cricketing world by a surprise.

Sri Lanka are not an ordinary team

While previewing the forthcoming T20I series on his Youtube channel, Chopra warned Hardik and unit to not take the Asia Cup champions as an ordinary team.

"Sri Lanka are not such an ordinary team. They have lost to us a lot in the past, but have won important games. They defeated us in the Asia Cup recently and became the Asia Cup champions,” Chopra said on his Youtube Channel.

Chopra further reflected on the performance of the Lankan players in the recently concluded Lanka Premier League.

"Don't take Sri Lanka lightly. Some players have come after doing extremely well in the Lanka Premier League. Avishka Fernando is in very good form. You have Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis and Dasun Shanka who always play well against India."

“ In bowling, Kasun Rajitha and Nuwan Thushara are bowling very well. Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana, this team is not bad," he added.

The reputed commentator concluded with his prediction of the series to be a close fought one and does not feel like it will end 3-0.
