Ahead of the first T20I against India, Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka banked on his senior pros to give their side a winning start in Mumbai.

The current Asia Cup champions will lock horns with India in a high-voltage three-match T20I series, which will see the passing of the baton for India, with Hardik Pandya leading the side and players like Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli being rested.

According to news18, Shanaka further stated that playing against India is always challenging, and their ODI leg of the tour will help the players prepare for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023, which will also be held on Indian shores.

The ODIs will begin on January 10 in Guwahati after the completion of the T20Is.

"India is always a better side, what we need to do is to play good cricket against India. It’s always tough against India in India. But we have a good team, looking forward to a good series.

"With the World Cup scheduled in India this year, the T20 and ODI series are very important because most of the guys in the side have not played in India. Definitely, this will give us exposure in a lot of grounds and conditions and playing against India will be good preparation for the World Cup,"

When asked about being unsold in the recently concluded IPL 2023 mini-auction, the Sri Lankan captain brushed aside any thoughts and looked forward to doing well in this series.
