Despite losing the Test series to Australia, South Africa's vice-captain Temba Bavuma believes that there's still a lot to play for in the third and final Test of the three-match series at the Sydney Cricket Ground, starting January 4.

South Africa suffered their heaviest defeat in Australia on Thursday, losing the Boxing Day Test by an innings and 182 runs before tea on the fourth day to concede a series defeat Down Under for the first time since 2006.

Bavuma, who top-scored with 65 in South Africa's second innings at the MCG, feels that the inability to adapt to the conditions has resulted in the downfall of the visitors in the series.

Being a senior member of team, Bavuma didn't shy away from expressing his disappointment on the series loss but he reckons there's still a lot to play for in the dead-rubber game at the SCG.

"It’s a matter of us simply not adapting. It’s disappointing the way that we’ve played but there’s still a lot for us to play for in Sydney,”  said Temba Bavuma ahead of the Sydney Test.

Australia and South Africa will lock horns in the third Test in Sydney starting 4th January 2023.

Despite losing the series, the Proteas will be aiming to win the New Year's Test to get crucial World Test Championship points.
