Steve Smith will make his return for Sydney Sixers in the ongoing Big Bash League competition. He will play his first game of the season against the Perth Scorchers on January 15.

He will be available when the Test summer against South Africa finishes on January 8, allowing him to play up to four regular-season matches.

Recently he struck a deal with Cricket Australia which stated that Smith will be added to Sixers squad as a replacement player once an international star heads back home in early January.

His return will mark the first time in three years that Smith will play a BBL match. Moreover, the 33-year-old will receive a greater salary as a part of marketing expenditure.

Upon his return, Smith will also clash against David Warner's Sydney Thunder on January 21.

So far, Smith has played 24 matches, and has amassed 619 runs, with a strike-rate of 129.23.
