Andile Phehlukwayo has been roped in by Paarl Royals as their wildcard player for the opening season of South Africa's T20 tournament named SA20.

Having acquired 17 players in the auction, every franchise was told to make a wildcard pick with the Royals choosing to go after the South Africa all-rounder.

Boasting of a rich T20 experience, Phehlukwayo has played 107 shortest-format games, taking 92 wickets and scoring 693 runs. In 38 T20Is, the 26-year-old claimed 45 scalps and amassed 149 runs.

Speaking on Phehlukwayo's recruitment, Paarl Royals' head coach JP added accentuated the former's all-round ability that can be exploited well in South African conditions.

Here's what Duminy said:

"We are delighted to have Andile in our team. He has a good understanding of the South African conditions and brings international experience into our side. We have seen his all-round abilities through his performances for both South Africa and in domestic circuit, and we are confident that he can play a big role for our team."

Notably, SA20 2023 will commence on January 10 with the opening clash, scheduled between MI Cape Town and Paarl Royals.
