Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, the Mumbai Indians have acquired the services of Arunkumar Jagadeesh. The former Karnataka captain has been appointed assistant batting coach and will work alongside batting coach Kieron Pollard.

The support staff will be under the watchful eyes of Mark Boucher, who will take over the role of MI head coach from Mahela Jayawardene. Shane Bond will continue as a bowling coach.

The 47-year-old worked as head coach for USA men's cricket between 2020 and 2022 and served in a similar capacity for domestic teams like Puducherry and Karnataka.

Arunkumar's laurels as batting coach include winning consecutive Ranji Trophy, Irani Cup, and Vijay Hazare titles with Karnataka in the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons.

This is his second stint in the IPL, having previously been appointed batting coach by Punjab Kings in 2017.

As a batter, Arunkumar amassed 7,208 First-Class runs in 109 matches, at an impressive average of 42.90, having won two Ranji Trophy cups in the 1995-96 and 1997-98 seasons.

In the recently held, IPL 2023 mini-auction the Mumbai-based franchise snapped up Australia's up and coming all-rounder Cameron Green for INR 17.5 crore, making headlines all over.
