Tom Latham records most hundreds by a New Zealand opener in Tests

In a remarkable turn of events, Tom Latham has set the record for the most hundreds as an opener for New Zealand in Test cricket. 

Latham, who hammered his 13th Test ton in the ongoing game against Pakistan, surpassed John Wright's tally of 12 hundreds to achieve this phenomenal milestone. He was dismissed by Abrar Ahmed for a magnificent 191-ball 113.

Since debuting against India in 2014, Latham has established himself as a vital cog in New Zealand's batting lineup in the purest format. 

The stylish southpaw, known for his incredible resistance and nonchalant stroke play, also records the second-highest individual score (264*) by a New Zealand opener in Tests. In 68 matches, Latham has amassed 4707 runs at a brilliant average of 42.02.  

Regarded as one of the finest Test openers of this generation, Latham has showcased his skills in ODIs as well, slamming 3382 runs at an average of 36.37 in 117 appearances. 

As of writing, New Zealand are well-placed at 231 for 2 in response to Pakistan's first innings total of 438.
