In a remarkable turn of events, David Warner attained two milestones that placed him among the elite Test cricketers.

In the ongoing second Test against South Africa, Warner hammered a scintillating hundred to become only the tenth batter in Test history to hit a century in his hundredth Test.

The other batters in this list are, Colin Cowdrey, Javed Miandad, Gordon Greenidge, Alec Stewart, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Ricky Ponting, Graeme Smith, Hashim Amla and Joe Root.

He also breached the 8000-run mark, surpassing the legendary Mark Waugh to become the seventh highest run-scorer for Australia in Test cricket.

Most runs for Australia in Tests

  • Ricky Ponting - 13378 runs in 287 innings
  • Allan Border - 11174 runs in 265 innings
  • Steve Waugh - 10927 runs in 260 innings
  • Michael Clarke - 8643 runs in 198 innings
  • Matthew Hayden - 8625 runs in 184 innings
  • Steve Smith - 8508* runs in 161 innings
  • David Warner -  8052* runs in 183 innings
  • Mark Waugh - 8029 runs in 209 innings

Notably, Warner's last Test century came against New Zealand back in January 2020. So, he has not only ended his almost three-year-long century drought, but also silenced his critics who have frequently questioned his place in the Test team.

Regarding the match, Australia are cruising ahead of South Africa, leading them by 21 runs with eight wickets in hand. As of writing, the hosts are 215 for two, with Warner and Steve Smith batting on 130 and 50, respectively.
