BAN vs IND: Ravi Ashwin questions Indian batter's defences in Dhaka Test

India somehow escaped from the jaws of loss in the second Test match against Bangladesh in Dhaka, where Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shakib Al Hasan kept on asking raising series inquiries.

Chasing a mere target of 145 runs in the fourth innings, the KL Rahul-led team were in deep waters at 74-7 at one moment, and if not for Ravichandran Ashwin and Shreyas Iyer's unbeaten eighth-wicket stand, Bangladesh could have notched their first Test win against Indians.

The 36-year-old allrounder was given the Player of the Match award for his match-winning performance - including 42* & 12 in crunch moments and six wickets with the ball.

While speaking about Team India's outing in the post-match interview, Ashwin raised a few queries and put questions to the batters' defences.

"I think the game was on the line. We didn't have much batting left.. They bowled good lines, and I thought we didn't trust our defences enough," Ashwin mentioned.

Throughout the series, batters like - Cheteshwar Pujara, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant - pulled Indians out of trouble on numerous occasions. However, their technique came under radar on Mirpur's spinning condition.

"You sometimes feel like you have to be ahead of things. I liked Shreyas' batting style. Here, pitches are fairly decent. But I felt that the ball became quite mushy very rapidly. To their credit, Bangladesh occasionally put us under a lot of pressure," he further said.

This was not the first time when India have found themselves in trouble while countering a quality attack on a spin-favouring track. On the top of it, their troubles have gotten twice fold while chasing a low total in the fourth innings of a Test match.
