In the latest announcement, Mir Hamza, Sajid Khan and Shahnawaz Dahani have been added to the Pakistan Test squad to face New Zealand in the two-match Test series. The first game of the series is slated to be played from December 26 in National Stadium, Karachi.

In the recent few days, Pakistan fans demanded the inclusion of Hamza in the Test setup due to his impressive performance in red-ball cricket in the last few years. He played an only Test for Pakistan against Australia in 2018. In the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2022/23, Hamza bagged 16 wickets in four games for Sindh.

Sajid Khan scalped 21 wickets in seven games, with the best match figure of 6/90 in the  Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. He last represented Pakistan in March this year in a Test fixture against Australia.

On the other hand, Dahani has got the benefit of being around white-ball setup and impressive performances in the Pakistan Cup.

Chief of  Interim Selection Committee Shahid Afridi reckoned that the addition of these players gives Babar Azam and Co. a best chance to take 20 wickets.

Shahid Afridi Statement

“We had a good discussion on the squad and agreed we needed to strengthen our bowling department to give ourselves the best chance of taking 20 wickets in a match. As such, and taking into consideration recent form and performances, we have added fast bowlers Mir Hamza and Shahnawaz Dahani, and off-spinner Sajid Khan.
