Match 12 of the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) 2022-23 witnessed the Perth Scorchers demolish the Melbourne Stars to move up to the third position in the points table.

Du Plessis and Inglis stand tall as Scorchers post a mammoth total

Faf du Plessis provided the Scorchers an incredible start after skipper Ashton Turner opted to bat. Du Plessis, in alliance with Nick Hobson, stitched a 70-run second wicket stand before Luke Wood dismissed the former for 68.

However, Australia's T20 wicket-keeper Josh Inglis kept the scoreboard ticking, smashing the Melbourne bowlers all around the park.

While Hobson missed his fifty by four runs, Inglis slammed his second half-century of BBL 12 in merely 25 balls.  Wood claimed his first five-wicket haul in T20 cricket amidst all the carnage that witnessed Scorchers register their highest-ever total in BBL history - 229 for 7.

Stars fall short as Behrendorff runs riot

Jason Behrendorff pegged down the Melbourne batters from the start, cleaning up their openers within four overs. Chasing a mammoth 230, only Beau Webster and Nick Larkin provided some resistance for their side.

Webster scored 43 runs before getting cleaned up by Peter Hatzoglou, who later lapped up Larkin's wicket for 34. Campbell Kellaway (25) tried to score quick runs but fell to Andrew Tye.

Nathan Coulter-Nile and Trent Boult remained unbeaten on 6 and 0, respectively, as Stars managed just 168 in their chase to lose the encounter by 61 runs.
