Australia's upcoming all-rounder Cameron Green is touted as the next big thing, given his potential with both bat and ball. Green, a permanent face in the Test side now ahead of the second Test against South Africa, revealed that this season for him has been a weird one.

In the recently concluded two-Test series against West Indies and the first Test in Perth against South Africa, Green felt underused, with the top-order batters and main bowlers sharing the bulk of the load between them.

Speaking to The West Australian, Green elaborated on why he felt weird.

“I only bowled three overs for the game and batted about 20 balls. It has definitely been a weird start to the summer for myself, not having to do too much.

Being the allrounder you are kind of like the guy to help out if the team needs. At the moment it feels like I am not really needed in a way, but that is obviously a sign of how well we are playing. As a teammate watching how well the guys are playing, it is pretty awesome to see,"

The 23-year-old has been a regular performer in T20Is and ODIs, however, his last proper outing in red-ball cricket came against Sri Lanka in July 2022.

The second Test will take place on December 26 at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground, with South Africa looking to level the series, and Australia eyeing an unassailable 2-0 lead.
