Wade, Dooley star as Hurricanes win nail-biter against Scorchers

Matthew Wade with the bat (51) and Patrick Dooley with the ball (4 wickets) were the stars for Hobart Hurricanes as they won a close-fought encounter against Perth Scorchers by 8 runs.
Both the teams headed into this encounter with different results. Scorchers won their last game, while the Hurricanes suffered a defeat in their tournament opener.
Wade, David hammer away Scorchers
Opting to bat first, Hurricanes had a torrid start with Ben McDermott getting back to the pavilion without troubling the scorers. But that was just the beginning of what was about to come. Matthew Wade joined hands with D'Arcy Short as the duo started to resurrect the innings.
They utilised the power-play to perfection and stitched a 67-run partnership for the second wicket, laying a strong foundation for the batters to follow.
Wade was at his best, scoring a blistering half-century and showed his prowess with the bat. By the time the southpaw was sent back for a well compiled 51 off 29 deliveries, Hurricanes were already in a strong position to score some big runs.
However, the defending champions roared back strongly with quick wickets of D'Arcy Short (35) and Shadab Khan (22) as the team from Hurricanes were reeling at 120 for 4. This is where Tim David came to life and gave the finishing touches the Hurricanes needed.
He took a while to settle in and eventually blasted away a quick-fire 46 to steer the Hurricanes to a competitive total of 172.
Inglis's effort goes in vain
173 was always going to be a tricky ask for the Scorchers and they made their life difficult by throwing away three crucial wickets inside the first 6 overs.
Scorchers' new recruitment, Faf du Plessis played an entertaining cameo (32 off 16) but his dismissal turned on a panic button for the defending champions. But the experienced duo of Ashton Turner and Josh Inglis started the repair work.
Inglis was the aggressor among the two batters and blasted a 37-ball 62 to give a ray of hope to his side. But once he was dismissed in the 16th over, things turned from bad to worse for the Scorchers as they lost three quick wickets and eventually surrendered for 164 for 8.
This was a game where Hurricanes needed a special effort to stop Inglis and co. and that effort was provided by Patrick Dooley, who bagged 4 crucial wickets and broke the backbone of Scorchers' top-order.
