India have been dealt with a blow as skipper Rohit Sharma has been sidelined from the second Test against Bangladesh due to the thumb injury that previously kept him out of the third ODI and first Test. Meanwhile, KL Rahul, who captained the side in absence of the regular skipper will continue to lead the Indian side in the upcoming game.

It has been reported that Sharma's thumb did recover in time for him to bat, however, things would have become tricky while fielding as there is still some stiffness.

The management and the medical team are confident of him returning for the white-ball assignments against Sri Lanka and New Zealand which will be played in January. The BCCI does not want to fast track Rohit as another injury could put his upcoming months in jeopardy.

The right-hander sustained the injury on his right thumb while attempting a catch at slips in the second ODI, after which he was sent back to India in a bid to ensure he receives the right treatment and recovers in time.

Rohit's absence has opened the door for Shubman Gill to continue as the top after smashing a century in the first game, thus helping India to hand the hosts a mammoth defeat by 188 runs.

The teams moved from Chattogram to Dhaka for the second Test to be played between 22nd and 26th December.
