In a significant development, Perth Scorchers have roped in experienced England seamer David Payne to their squad for the Big Bash League 2022-23

Payne joins the Scorchers camp as a replacement for Tymal Mills, who pulled out of the tournament owing to a family emergency.

In his reaction, Payne revealed he has always looked up to the Scorchers in the BBL. The left-arm pacer termed the Optus a phenomenal ground and seemed excited to bowl at the venue.

Here's what Payne said

"I feel incredibly excited and lucky. I’ve always followed the Scorchers, with the links we’ve had at Gloucester – Michael Klinger, AJ Tye and Cameron Bancroft. I know how successful Perth are, so to be stepping into their dressing room is incredibly exciting and I can’t wait to get out there,

"I’ve never played in WA but watched a few games at Optus Stadium and it’s a phenomenal ground. We see and hear that the pitches in Australia are a lot quicker than England, so I’m looking forward to that, and I’m really looking forward to the challenge in general."

Regarded as one of the finest exponents of T20 bowling in the English circuit, Payne has 155 wickets to his name in 126 matches. While he can clock 140 Kph consistently, his deceptive variations make him a potent weapon across phases.
