Gritted the first phase out and then I cashed in: Arjun Tendulkar on scoring hundred on debut

'Tendulkar' hogging the limelight is something almost everyone said during Sachin Tendulkar's playing days right from age-group cricket. Last evening on Day 2 of the Ranji Trophy 2022-23, Arjun Tendulkar made headlines when he slammed his maiden First-Class ton playing for Goa against Rajasthan in Porvorim.

Arjun, 23, is a bowling all-rounder who shifted his base from Mumbai to Goa and gained instant success in his new stateside. Coming into bat with Goa in trouble, Arjun stitched a memorable stand with Suyash Prabhudessai. While Prabhudessai slammed a double-ton, Arjun registered his first-ever Ranji Trophy hundred on debut, just like Sachin, who scored a magnificent ton on his debut back in 1987, playing for Mumbai.

After the match, the Mumbai Indians player spoke about his approach while in the middle. According to NEWS18, Arjun when asked about being aware of his father's similar feat, the youngster responded by saying no.

“When I first walked out to bat I had to face most of the balls because Suyash was batting on 80 so it was my job to protect him and play most of the balls. As of the approach today, it was more about the basics. Just give first hour to the bowlers. After we grit the initial phase out, it’s time to capitalise.

And time to get runs. As I said, it was the new ball and the new ball would do something. I honestly don’t care how I look, I gritted the first difficult phase out and then I cashed in,

No I wasn’t aware."

Goa are 493 for 8 on Day 2 stumps after being put into to bat by Rajasthan on Day 1.
