Cricket Australia (CA) named a strong 15-member squad for the inaugural ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2023 filled with players with domestic experience.

The U19 T20 World Cup will be played between January 14 and 29 across two venues — Benoni and Potchefstroom — in South Africa.

The Australian side will be coached by Sarah Aley, which includes a support staff comprising Erin Osborne and Dulip Samaraweera. The Australian U19 squad consists of eight players who have played in the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) and domestic competitions.

The likes of Ella Hayward, Rhys McKenna, Paris Bowdler, and Milly Illingworth play for Cricket Victoria, while Amy Smith represents Tasmania.

The batting will revolve around New South Wales' Claire Moore, who also plays for Sydney Sixers.

McKenna, Ella Hayward, and Smith have played for the Melbourne Stars, Melbourne Renegades, and Hobart Hurricanes in WBBL 2022, respectively.

CA's Head of Women's performance, Shawn Flegler said the team is brimming with exciting talent.

"Our squad has several players who have experienced professional cricket environments, but final selection for the World Cup was based on overall performances across a variety of competitions."

Australia U19 Women's side is drawn in Group A alongside Bangladesh, the USA and Sri Lanka. They play their opener against Bangladesh on January 14 at Willowmoore Park.
