The last few years in Indian cricket have been about comebacks; last year it was Dinesh Karthik, and now Jaydev Unadkat. Unadkat, who played his only Test for India in 2010, is making a return to the Indian red-ball squad for Bangladesh's tour after pacer Mohammed Shami was ruled out from an injury.

Unadkat's domestic laurels with each passing year for Saurashtra is rising, having won the Ranji Trophy 2019-20 title and Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022-23, apart from claiming 126 wickets in 24 First-Class matches from 2019.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, the Indian wicketkeeper batter praised Unadkat and called him one of the most deserving bowlers in the domestic circuit.

However, Karthik believes that the 31-year-old might not get a chance to play in the upcoming two-Test series in Bangladesh and could potentially lose a spot in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023.

"I think Unadkat might not play this series, to be very honest. There is Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur. There is a good chance he might not end up playing this series, but I think that is okay.

The fact that he was rewarded, he has been given those whites to represent India, be part of the team, that matters the most. He might not even find a place in the team for the Australia series, with Bumrah or Shami coming in, we might move on,"

The KL Rahul-led India will face Bangladesh in the first Test on Wednesday at Chattogram.
