Jaffna Kings continue their strong showing with a big victory over Dambulla

Jaffna Kings secured a 51-run victory against Dambulla Aura in Match 8 of the Lanka Premier League 2022 on Sunday at Pallekele. 

Gurbaz, Fernando help Kings post a mammoth total

Invited to bat first, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Avishka Fernando produced a sensational start for the Jaffna Kings. The duo hit the balls to every corner of the park to amass 133 runs in less than 11 overs, before Gurbaz perished for 73 off 35, with seven fours and five sixes. 

Soon, Fernando was cleaned up by Dushan Hemantha for 54 off 30. Then, the duo of Samarawickrama (38* off 22) and Shoaib Malik (32 off 15) propelled Jaffna Kings to a mammoth total of 240 on the board. 

Dambulla lack potency 

Dambulla's key batters Jordan Cox and Tom Abell could not put up solid contributions chasing the score. Shevon Daniel (29) and Bhanuka Rajapaksa (38) did well, but could not accelerate the score. 

Captain Dasun Shanaka played a terrific knock of 44 off 23 balls, but Sikandar Raza could not support him at the other end. Ravindu Fernando garnered 19 off 13, as Dambulla were restricted to a total of 189 in 20 overs. 

Binura Fernando was the pick of the bowlers with four scalps, while Suminda Lakshan bagged two wickets.
