When everything surrounding David Warner is turning out to be a controversy, some more fuel has been added to the fire as Australia's stand-in skipper for West Indies Test Steve Smith has lashed out at Cricket Australia (CA) for southpaw's lifetime leadership ban.

He went on to the extent of calling the restriction as 'fundamentally wrong' which has been a matter of debate for a long while. The reason for him backing his teammate is that the opening batter recently expressed his pain of going through a public trial after which he withdrew his appeal.

"From my point of view, banning for life from leadership is just fundamentally wrong,"

Further, Smith advocated that Warner has had enough of punishment and now they need to move on from it as they did in his case.

"David served his time like I did. For us, we know he's a leader around the group, and on and off the field he's doing a tremendous job. It's been a difficult one for him, it's been a difficult week,"

The right-hander also mentioned that it has turned out to be a kind of disturbance for the experienced batter. Moreover, he cleared that the entire side is backing Warner in this entire saga.

"It has been more of a distraction for Davey, no doubt, going through that himself. David has said he's done and dusted and get on with it. He's got our full support. Hopefully, he can have a really big series for us against South Africa with the bat."

Australia's next task will be against South Africa in a three-match Test series commencing on the 17th of December.
