India Women prevailed by four runs in a super-over thriller against Australia Women in the second fixture of the T20I series on Sunday at Mumbai.

Mooney, McGrath show floors Indian bowling line-up

Invited to bat first, Australia were off to a positive start with Alyssa Healy (25), who scored the majority of 29 run-stand for the first wicket with Beth Mooney.

The vice-captain Tahlia McGrath arrived at No.3, and took her time to settle in the crease. On the other hand, Mooney continued her momentum to secure consistent boundaries for Women in Yellow.

None of the Indian bowlers could leave an impact, as Australia Women mustered 187 in their designated quota of 20 overs. Mooney remained unbeaten on 82 off 54, while McGrath hit 70* off 51.

India started off their chase in a brilliant fashion, with Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma steering the team at a lavish rate. The duo made full use of the fielding restrictions to score 55 runs in the first six overs.

However, Verma soon holed out at the covers off Alana King for 34 off 23. Soon, Jemimah Rodrigues perished for 4. The skipper Harmanpreet Kaur supported well with a knock of 21.

Mandhana (79 off 49) was flawless with her hitting, but found an unusual way to get bowled in an unfortunate manner. Then, Richa Ghosh was sensational to hit three sixes and keep Team India in the hunt. In an another twist of tale, Deepti Sharma (2) was dismissed early.

With 14 needed of six, Devika Vaidya hit two boundaries and the match ended as a tie.

In the Super over, Richa Ghosh started with a six, but was dismissed on the second ball. Then, Mandhana was impressive to help India finish on 20/1.

Then, Australia could only score 16 in response, and India won the game by four runs.
