Melbourne Stars on Saturday, December 10 announced the signing of Romanian all-rounder Pavel Florin for the 12th edition of Big Bash League.

The Romanian all-rounder has hogged the limelight after his valiant efforts in the last few seasons in the European cricket league. He will fly to Canberra with the squad for the opening game of the season.

The 43-year-old has played 16 T20 Internationals, where he picked 15 wickets at an economy rate of 7.74 and an average of 12.13.

With the bat, he hasn't made a great impact, having accumulated just 26 runs in 15 T20I outings. Notably, he wasn't picked by any club at the inaugural BBL overseas player draft, held in August.

Earlier, Melbourne Stars appointed Adam Zampa as their new captain for the forthcoming edition of Big Bash League in the absence of their regular skipper Glenn Maxwell.

Australia's star all-rounder is expected to miss the entire season of BBL after being ruled out of cricket for an extended period after suffering a broken leg in “a freak accident” at a birthday party earlier in November.

Melbourne Stars will kick off its BBL 2022-23 campaign against Sydney Thunder in the opening match of the tournament, set to be played on December 13 at Maunka Oval.
