The Impact Player concept which is being introduced in the upcoming Indian Premier League season is likely to be applied for Indian players only.

Although the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are yet to confirm this news, it has been reported that the BCCI managers, who are in direct contact with the franchises, have stated that only Indian players could come in as a subsititute during the game.

As reported by Cricbuzz, franchises have learnt that teams cannot subsititute an overseas player in place of an overseas player, nor will they be allowed to introduce a foreign player in place of an Indian player.

The rule is to make sure that the original concept of allowing only four foreign players in a game is not changed. However, whether a foreign player will be allowed to come into the playing XI if a team goes with only three overseas player is still unknown.

The Impact Player concept was first introduced in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022 and the BCCI is happy with the experiment.
