Even after Rohit Sharma's late blitz, India could not chase down Bangladesh's target in the last over as Mehidy Hasan Miraz's century rescued his side in the first innings.

Bangladesh recover after a poor start

After opting to bat first, Bangladesh had a terrible start as they faltered out skipper Litton Das fell in the 10th over. Reeling at 39/2, Mohammed Siraj and Washington Sundar along with Umran Malik bowled brilliantly to down their rivals to 69/6 in 19 overs.

It was then a commendable effort from Miraz who stitched a gigantic 148 runs partnership with Mahmudullah Riyad to take their side to 217, batting almost 28 overs until the 47th over. Mahmudullah innings ended on 77 with 7 fours while the star of the show Miraz put on unbeaten century with four sixes and eight fours helping Tigers reach 271 for the loss of seven wickets.

Sundar grabbed three whereas pacers Siraj and Umran were good enough to get two a piece. Apart from the two mentioned above, there were no significant contributions as third highest run-scorer was Najmul Hossain Shanto with 21 runs to his name.

Rohit's effort couldn't seal the deal

Going behind Bangladesh's mighty total of 272, India faced a blow in the first innings as skipper Rohit Sharma injured his thumb and couldn't come out to open. Instead it was former captain Virat Kohli who came out along with Shikhar Dhawan. But things since went downhill as both the players departed early inside three overs.

Sundar came in early, and couldn't do much as well as India lost the third inside 10 overs. Shreyas Iyer (82) and Axar Patel (56) batted incredibly well to pull the side back into the match after KL Rahul lost his wicket to Miraz. The duo added 107 runs for fifth wicket but as soon as they departed the Men in Blue were in trouble again.

The Indian side were on 207/7 in 42.4 overs when skipper Rohit walked in with stitches in his hand. The match was looking long gone when the right-hander played a valiant 51-run knock from 28 balls batting till the end.

20 were required in the last over with just one wicket remaining when the experienced batter smashed 14 off the first five balls. However, with 6 needed off the final delivery, a decent yorker from Mustafizur Rahman restricted Rohit to smash it out of the park resulting in a five-run victory for the hosts.
