Kandy Falcons prevailed by 109 runs over Colombo Stars in Match 2 of the Lanka Premier League 2022 on Tuesday at Hambantota.

Falcons post a strong total on the board

The decision of Stars of bowling first certainly backfired as they faced the powerhouse of talent in Andre Fletcher and Pathum Nissanka. The opening duo of Falcons provided a blazing start to the team with their extravagant display of ball-striking abilities.

Nissanka and Fletcher secured boundaries in almost every over and steered the team at a lavish rate. The duo added 156 runs for the first wicket, before Nissanka (71 off 41) was dismissed by Seekkuge Prasanna in the 16th over.

Fletcher continued his strong showing to remain unbeaten on 102 off 67 balls, while Carlos Brathwaite hit 20* off 13, which paved way for Falcons to post 199 on the board.

Stars succumb to pressure

The key batters of Stars, Niroshan Dickwella (5) and Charith Asalanka (2), while the experienced campaigners Ravi Bopara (2) and Dinesh Chandimal (9) fell early.

After cleaning up Chandimal, Wanindu Hasaranga sent Benny Howell (0) and Prasanna (0) in the subsequent balls to register a hat-trick. Angelo Mathews emerged as the top-scorer with contribution of 26, while Keemo Paul (22) and Dominic Drakes (18) lessened the losing deficit, as Stars were bundled out for 90.

Hasaranga finished with four wickets, followed by Fabian Allen with two scalps for the Falcons.
