Hrishikesh Kanitkar named India Women's batting coach, Ramesh Powar shifted to NCA

Former Indian cricketer, Hrishikesh Kanitkar has been hired as the Indian women's team's batting coach before the start of the five-match T20I series against Australia. starting from Friday.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India also announced that former head coach Ramesh Powar will be shifting to the NCA to join VVS Laxman as part of the restructuring module of the BCCI.


While commenting on the new role, Kanitkar said: 

"It is an honour to be appointed as the new Batting Coach of the Senior Women’s team. I see tremendous prospects in this team and we have a good mix of youth and experience. I believe this team is ready for the challenge ahead. We have a few marquee events coming up and it is going to be exciting for the team and myself as batting coach."

Kanitkar, who had a rich history in coaching, has given services to the Goa and Tamil Nadu state teams and was credited highly for helping the latter hugely in their white-ball setup. He was also hired as the assistant coach of Kochi Tuskers Kerala but pulled out last minute due to disputes with the owners.

The 49-year-old played two Test matches and 34 ODIs for India during 1997-2000 but is highly celebrated for winning a game against Pakistan during the final of the Independence Cup in 1998. 

Kanitkar's maiden assignment as batting coach will begin on December 9 in Mumbai in the T20I series, when the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side meet Alyssa Healy's World Champions
