In the latest development, the selectors are likely to submit a list of 200 players for the inaugural edition of the Women's Indian Premier League. Around 160-170 of them will be Indian, and are rest will be overseas.

The tentative month for the tournament is said to be March 2023. So far, BCCI had been organizing the Women's T20 Challenge comprising local and international players.

However, with the ever-increase in demand, BCCI opted to go ahead with the Women's IPL, which will be a franchise model.  The five-team tournament will see the participation of prominent Indian as well as overseas stars.

Furthermore, the young uncapped players will also get the much-needed platform to showcase their talent and rub shoulders with experienced campaigners. The senior Indian players Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana also view Women's IPL as a platform to bridge the gap between international and domestic cricket.

As reported by Cricbuzz, the BCCI Governing Council has asked the selectors to create a pool of 200 players for the Women's IPL. The draft system is likely to be used for the inaugural season. Each team will consist of 18 players, including 12 Indian and 6 overseas.

As many as six of the 10 Men's IPL franchise owners are said to have taken an interest in owning the team in Women's IPL.

Ahead of the confirmation of dates for the tournament, BCCI will float a media rights tender and organize a franchise auction. The apex board is expecting each of the five franchises to be sold for around 1000 Crores.
