Former Australian captain, Michael Clarke has dropped a 'bombshell' on his ex-teammate David Warner, stating that the 36-year-old is too old for captaincy.

Regular skipper Pat Cummins is nursing an injury and could be ruled out of the second Test against West Indies. With no dedicated vice-captain assigned by Cricket Australia, there has been a lot of speculations as to who can slot in that role perfectly.

Warner has a lifetime captaincy ban after his involvement in the sandpaper scandal. But there has been a significant push to remove the ban.

However, Clarke reckons that giving captaincy arm-band to Warner at the twilight of his career could be a disaster.

Clarke drops bombshell

"Tactically Davey is really good. I've watched him do the IPL and he's been brilliant - one of the best - but at 36 years of age, I'd be very surprised if they go that way," Clarke said to Yahoo Sport Australia.

"I think they've made it pretty clear what they feel. If you'e fighting for Davey to be the captain, it's for marketing reasons."

He added: "We should be promoting the youngsters as much as we can. We need to be finding leadership in our domestic circuit."
