Indian Cricket Team got another wake-up call ahead of World Cup 2023 as they suffered a gut-wrenching one-wicket loss at the hands of Bangladesh courtesy of Mehidy Hasan Miraz's late blitz in the ODI series opener in Dhaka.

The match result could've been different had the Indian team not dropped a couple of catches at the end. First, it was KL Rahul who dropped Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the 43rd over. Later, Sundar, on the very next delivery didn't even attempt to grab the catch.

Senior Indian wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik slammed the poor fielding effort of team India in Mirpur. Speaking to Cricbuzz, Karthik said had Rahul or Sundar taken that catch, India would have won the first ODI quite convincingly.

Here's what Dinesh Karthik said:

"Obviously KL Rahul's drop towards the end and Sundar not coming, don't know why he didn't come in. I don't know if it was because of the lights, which I wouldn't know, but if he had seen the ball, he should have gone for it."

"That's only a question he can answer. Overall fielding effort was 50-50. Not the best day, but not the worst day either. I guess in the end, with the pressure, we left some boundaries as well."

Speaking in the post-match conference, KL Rahul, the vice-captain of team India did admit that a couple of dropped catches at the end had cost India the match.

"That's cricket, right? You have to expect the unexpected. As long as cricket has been played, these kinds of things keep happening. They fought very well till the end and a couple of dropped catches and that innings from Mehidy."

The Rohit Sharma-led team India would be keen to roar back strongly in the second ODI on Wednesday, set to be played on Wednesday, December 7 at Shere Bangla Stadium, Dhaka.
