In what could be a significant blow to England, swashbuckling all-rounder Liam Livingstone has been ruled out of the remainder of the Test series against Pakistan due to injury. Notably, Livingstone damaged his right knee while fielding in the ongoing first Test in Rawalpindi and hobbled while batting during England's second innings.

A scan on Sunday morning revealed the extent of Livingstone's injury. He will now return to the UK on Tuesday and begin a rehabilitation programme under the supervision of the ECB and the Lancashire medical teams.

This is unfortunate for Livingstone, who made his Test debut in the series, only to get out for a single-digit score in the first innings on a ridiculously flat pitch.

He was supposed to play the role of a bowling all-rounder on Pakistan's spin-friendly decks. However, he couldn't bowl a single delivery after sustaining the injury, as Will Jacks emerged as a surprising bowling weapon for the Englishmen.

Although England are yet to announce an injury replacement for Livingstone, promising all-rounder Rehan Ahmed seems to be the most eligible option that the visitors can consider for the second Test in Multan.
