Warwickshire have appointed Stuart Barnes as their new bowling coach following the departure of Matt Mason to England Women.

The 52-year-old had coached the England Lions and Ireland previously. He also provided his coaching services to Bangladesh national team.

Barnes, who had earlier worked with Gloucestershire, Somerset, and most recently Surrey will join the Three Bears full-time in January.

Speaking on being appointed as the bowling coach of Warwickshire, Barnes expressed his delight, stating he is looking forward to working with the team and their bowlers:

“It’s great to see how these guys have developed; I’m looking forward to working with them and the rest of the bowlers."

“There’s a very talented squad here, one that can challenge for honours on all fronts, and naturally that was one of the attractions."

Barnes has also worked with Warwickshire bowlers - Chris Woakes, Liam Norwell, and Craig Miles. While he provided his insights to Woakes on an England Lions tour of the West Indies, Norwell and Miles were coached by Barnes when they were with Gloucestershire.

“My aim is obviously to get the bowlers fit and raring to go ahead of the new season, plus also using my experience working with young players to create an environment where talent can blossom and break into the professional game."

“The facilities here are excellent and there is really no excuse not to improve. I can’t wait to get started and become a Bear!”

Expressing his delight at Barnes being appointed as bowling coach, here's what first-team coach Mark Robinson stated:

“We’re lucky to land someone of Stuart’s calibre at short notice. He’s a coach with solid county and international experience. He’s a great addition to our coaching set-up and I’m confident our bowlers will benefit under his guidance.”
