In an unfortunate turn of events, legendary Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting has been taken to hospital after suffering a heart scare during the first Test match between Australia and West Indies.

Ponting was representing Channel Seven as a broadcaster for the match. However, he left the ground at lunch and didn't cover the action in the afternoon sessions.

Although Ponting has reportedly told colleagues that he is feeling OK, he went to hospital for checks as a precaution after feeling unwell.

A Channel 7 spokesperson has confirmed that Ponting won't commentate in the remainder of the day's play.

“Ricky Ponting is unwell and will not be providing commentary for the remainder of today’s coverage,” the spokesperson said.

Although the nature of Ponting’s health scare is not thought to be serious, he chose to get checked out after he was concerned with some symptoms.

Channel 7 are yet to confirm if Ponting will be available to resume his commentary duties on day four in Perth.
