In a significant turn of events, the Mumbai Indians franchises, MI Cape Town and MI Emirates, have named Rashid Khan and Kieron Pollard their captains for the inaugural seasons of the SA20 and ILT20, respectively. The parent club Mumbai Indians made the announcement via a tweet from its official Twitter handle.

Both Rashid and Pollard have a plethora of experience in the shortest format, having played in T20 leagues all over the world. While Rashid is hailed as the best-ever bowler to play T20s, Pollard is regarded as one of the finest finishers the game has ever seen.

However, recently, Pollard announced his retirement from the IPL, taking up the batting coach's job for the Mumbai Indians. On the other hand, after surprisingly being released by the Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rashid joined the Gujarat Giants, leading them to the title with perfection in the IPL 2022.

The SA20 commences on January 10, with the MI Cape Town taking on the Paarl Royals in Cape Town in the opening clash. On the other hand, the ILT20 begins three days later, with Dubai Capitals locking horns with the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in the first match. MI Emirates will play their first game against Sharjah Warriors on January 14 in Abu Dhabi.
